Google Calendar
Bring your Google Calendar events in, see your Tasks beside them, and drag Tasks onto the grid to schedule them.
Connect Google
Go to Settings, then Integrations. The Google card has two boxes, Google Calendar and Gmail, both ticked. Untick Gmail if you only want the calendar.
Click Connect Google and approve the access on Google’s page. You come back to blastbeat when you are done.
On the Calendar page, pick which of your Google Calendars to show. A Calendar can be shown or hidden at any time from the left rail.
You can also start from the Calendar page, which gc opens, and connect from there.
Google Calendar and Gmail are one Google connection with two switches, so connecting one later asks Google for that feature’s access only. Turning a switch off deletes what blastbeat kept for that feature and leaves the other on.
On the desktop app, the connection finishes in your system browser and the app waits. It asks you to confirm the account before it keeps it.
What blastbeat asks for
Calendar asks to see the list of your Calendars, and to read and change Events. Gmail asks for its own, separate access. Disconnect removes the access.
What syncs
blastbeat keeps a copy of your Events, from 30 days back to over a year ahead, and refreshes it about every 5 minutes. It also syncs when you open Calendar, and Sync now in the toolbar forces it.
When you create, move or delete an Event in blastbeat, blastbeat makes the change in Google first and keeps what Google answers. Changes you make in Google show up on the next sync.
Times appear in your Profile timezone.
Using the Calendar
The Calendar page has Day, Week and Month views.
- Events. Click one to see its time, Calendar, location, how many attendees accepted, a link to join the video call, and Open in Google Calendar.
- Tasks. The Show Tasks on the calendar switch draws your Tasks beside the Events, colored by Project. A Task with a Due time is a Time-block as long as its Duration. You can limit the Tasks to one Project or to some Labels.
- Unscheduled. The left rail lists open Tasks with no Due. Drag one onto a time to give it a Due date and time. Dropped on the all-day strip it gets the date and no time, and in the Month view it gets only the date.
- Event tasks. Choose Add Tasks on an Event to make Tasks from it, such as prep or follow-up. They stay linked to the Event. Deleting the Event leaves the Tasks.
A Task is not copied into Google. Your Tasks stay in blastbeat, and the overlay is for your eyes only.
Create, move and delete Events
- New Event. Click + Event, or sweep an empty slot on the grid. A small card asks for the title, and More options opens the full form: day, start and end, all day, which Calendar, location, a Google Meet link and a description. A box makes a prep Task for you at the same time.
- Move. Drag an Event to another time or day, or right-click it to move it to the next day or next week. Undo is in the toast.
- Resize. Pull the bottom edge of a timed Event, within its day.
- Delete. Use the Delete button in the Event’s card. It is deleted from Google Calendar too, and Tasks made from it stay.
You cannot edit an Event’s title, time or attendees after you make it. Edit those in Google Calendar. A Calendar you can only view refuses changes.
With a repeating Event, blastbeat shows each turn as its own Event, and you can move or delete a single one.
CalDAV
If your Admin has turned on CalDAV, you can connect a CalDAV calendar such as iCloud, Fastmail or Nextcloud instead. Choose the server type, enter its URL, your username and an app password if the server has them. iCloud and Fastmail require one.
A CalDAV calendar works like Google’s, with two exceptions. A repeating event, or one turn of it, cannot be moved in blastbeat, and a single turn cannot be deleted. Do those in your own calendar app.
Disconnect
Disconnect on the Integrations page deletes what blastbeat kept from the account and withdraws its access. Your Tasks and Notes stay. If Google does not confirm that access was withdrawn, blastbeat says so and points you to your Google Account, where you can remove blastbeat yourself.
If Google stops accepting blastbeat’s access, Integrations shows Reconnect.
